Mumbai Indians Triumph Over Delhi Capitals
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 22: Following their recent victory against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, Mitchell Santner, the left-arm spinner for the Mumbai Indians (MI), praised the outstanding performance of right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah during the 63rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Bumrah delivered an impressive spell, taking three wickets in just 3.2 overs while allowing only 12 runs, achieving an economy rate of 3.60. He dismissed Tristan Stubbs, Madhav Tiwari, and Mustafizur Rehman during his time on the pitch.
During the post-match presentation, Santner commented on Bumrah's contribution, stating, “In recent matches, our bowlers have been effective, and having someone like Bumrah to bowl at the end of the powerplay and at the finish is always beneficial.”
Thanks to the efforts of Bumrah and Santner, who both took three wickets, the Delhi Capitals were bowled out for a mere 121 runs, leading to a 59-run victory for the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
This win allowed the Mumbai Indians to become the fourth team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, joining the Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings.
Additionally, Santner highlighted the crucial roles played by Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 73 runs off 43 balls, and Naman Dhir, who contributed 24 runs from just 8 balls. He remarked, “Our bowling unit performed excellently, but it was SKY and Naman who set us up to reach 180, which was likely above par on that pitch.”
In his closing remarks, the Kiwi player discussed the pitch conditions, noting his three-wicket haul in four overs for just 11 runs. He explained, “The wicket was slightly slower with red soil. The more overspin you bowl, the better the results. My role today was to mix it up and keep the batters uncertain. It was gratifying to see the ball spin. I aimed to bowl stump-to-stump, and there was enough assistance to bowl a bit straighter.”
